Hank Hanegraaff talks with Dr. Nicole Roccas, author of Time and Despondency: Regaining the Present in Faith and Life. Dr. Roccas holds a PhD in European History from the University of Cincinnati and focuses her work at the intersection between faith and “difficult subjects” in life—subjects such as mortality, time, doubt, and grief, and how these issues relate to the lived experience of Christian faith. Time isn’t an illusion or an abstraction but is central to how we experience life. Likewise, our faith in Christ is not an abstraction but experienced in the present moment in time. While our anxieties draw our focus to the future and our regrets focus on the past, the present is where we are able to commune with Christ, and that is precisely why it is important to be “present.” Hank and Dr. Roccas explore the depths of time and despondency, both today and throughout history, in relation to the purpose of our lives—the purpose of becoming fully human in Christ. Truth Matters, Life Matters More with Hank Hanegraaff is sponsored by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
